Our Philosophy

Most of us think learning stops once we’re out of school. We dive into work, family, and life, often forgetting that there’s always more to learn and ways to grow.

At Kung Fu Zone, we live by the idea that we never really stop learning. It’s not about age or being in a classroom; it’s about the hunger to be better. Kung Fu isn’t just about self-defence or getting fit, though you’ll get plenty of that.

It’s about really getting to know yourself, the good and the not-so-good, and working on both. It’s about facing challenges head-on and coming out stronger on the other side.

Our approach is rooted in traditional martial arts. It will be challenging; it will be tough. But it’s the kind of tough that leaves you feeling accomplished, with a body and mind that are sharper and more resilient.  After all, “Kung Fu” is all about mastering something through dedication and hard work. And that’s what we believe life is truly about.

Our School

Established in 2015 by the dynamic husband-and-wife duo, Shkar and Kristina, our family-owned school has transitioned from hosting classes in local community halls to being a trusted beacon in traditional Chinese martial arts. Today, we boast a state-of-the-art martial arts gym, offering over 50 classes weekly for both adults and children.

Our commitment extends beyond teaching martial arts. We’re profoundly dedicated to the holistic well-being of our community. Through our varied programmes, we strive to boost physical fitness, nurture mental wellness, and encourage an active lifestyle. Central to our ethos are personal growth, self-discipline, and empowerment. We take immense pride in our inclusive approach, welcoming individuals from every background. Additionally, our active engagement in local events, collaborations, and organising fundraising for local charities further highlights our unwavering dedication to the community we deeply value.

FAQ’s

I'm very unfit. Can I still join?

Absolutely! Martial arts are for individuals of all fitness levels. Our classes are structured to allow you to progress at your own pace, building strength, flexibility, and endurance over time.

Every student begins at their own starting point, and we’re here to support and guide you on your journey to better fitness and skill.

What should I wear for my first class?

For your first class, wear comfortable workout clothing that allows for movement, such as a t-shirt and loose-fitting tracksuit bottoms or shorts. Please remove any jewellery and watches before class.

If you have items that can’t be removed, ensure they are adequately covered to prevent injury. As you continue with us, we’ll guide you on getting the appropriate uniform and gear.

How often should I attend classes to see progress?

We recommend attending classes at least 2-3 times a week for consistent progress. However, everyone’s schedule and learning pace is different. The key is regular practice and commitment.

Can training at Kung Fu Zone benefit my mental health and overall wellbeing?

Absolutely! Martial arts are as much about mental wellbeing as they are about physical training. Regular practice not only instills values like discipline, respect, patience, and focus but also promotes mental health by reducing stress, anxiety and enhancing self-esteem.

The skills and values you acquire can positively impact other areas of life, supporting both your mental and physical wellbeing.

How do you ensure safety during training?

Safety is paramount to us. All our instructors have first aid training, have undergone
enhanced DBS checks, and are trained in safeguarding. We teach techniques in a controlled environment, emphasising correct form, warm-ups, and cool-downs to minimise the risk of injuries.

During sparring or specific drills, protective gear is always used to ensure everyone’s safety.

One of the best decisions I made is to register my 4 year-old daughter to Kung Fu class with Kristina! I love the way this Martial Art is taught by Kung Fu Zone, and the values it instills in children. It is not only about teaching them self-defense, it is also about teaching them discipline, channeling their energy, and practicing enriching habits that will only empower them growing up. Kristina is the perfect instructor to convey to kids all of the above.

My experience with kung-fu zone has been life changing. Originally went in to learn a few kicks here and there for my acting skill set, however I have gained more then that and the gift of regular kung-fu and tai-chi classes keeps on giving. Love having this practice in my routine and would recommend it to anyone. The community is welcoming and not intimidating at all. It’s a safe space to learn, train, fail and grow. Big thank you to Shkar and Kristina for creating such a wonderful environment, who I can call a kung-fu family.

I have recently joined Kung Fu Zone school and already reaping the benefits.
The quality of the training is excellent, paired with any explanation needed during the sessions. The combination of the Tai Chi classes, slower pace but requiring a lot of focus and the Kung Fu classes are both efficient workouts and rewarding disciplines.
Thank you Shkar and Kristina for the great opportunity to train in your school.

We joined the school during lockdown, and for my 7 year old son Kristina has been the most engaging and patient teacher we could wish for. It’s no surprise to us this school is going from strength to strength, 3 years on from our son’s first lesson we cannot imagine our Saturdays without this remarkable school!
